Lead with position, class and size

Put class year and position in the subject line. In the body, list height and weight only if they are current and accurate. Staffs sort by position need first.

Film beats everything

Link a short highlight with your best plays first. Mark your jersey number. Full-game film helps if a coach asks for it.

Measurables you can verify

Include times or lifts only if they were recorded at a camp, combine, or by your coach. Unverified 40 times hurt credibility.

Timing

Send after a strong season or after new film. Camps in summer are a common next step, so mention any camps you plan to attend.

FAQ

Should I include my head coach’s contact?

Yes. College staffs often call the high school coach. Add their name and email or phone if your coach agrees.

Do I need a highlight video before emailing?

It helps a lot. Without film, most staffs cannot evaluate you. If you do not have film yet, mention when you will.

When can college coaches reply to recruiting emails?

You can email a coach at any age. When a coach is allowed to reply depends on the NCAA division and sport, and many Division I sports cannot send personal recruiting messages until June 15 after sophomore year or later. Check the current NCAA recruiting calendar for your sport. Silence early on is often a rules issue, not a lack of interest.

How long should a recruiting email be?

Short. Aim for something a coach can read in under a minute: who you are, why their program, your key numbers, a film link, and how to reach you.
